Onion Crunch! Yum Yum Yum! (Review)

Move over French's fried onions! There's another crunchy onion coming to the dinner table.

Onion Crunch! Yum! Yum! Yum!

I was given the opportunity to try out Onion Crunch's Original Flavor of fried onions.
We personally almost always use fried onions for green bean casserole but when presented with Onion Crunch, we were also presented with many different ways to use fried onions.

For our review, we tried 3 different methods. Onion Fried Chicken, Onion Crunch as salad toppers, and even Onion Crunch on our hamburgers.

We used a recipe directly from Onion Crunch's website for the chicken. While it was good and we definitely liked the crunchy exterior, we think a FLAVORED Onion crunch would be best for the chicken. We like a little spice to our food ;)
Which led us to the salad. We cut up what Onion Crunch covered chicken was left and tossed it right into our normal house salad... and we even added more Onion Crunch.
It was PERFECTO!

And of course, it was the perfect topping to our hamburgers too!
Sorry I don't have pictures for them but here is one from Onion Crunch's website...
Looks delicious right?!

Use Onion Crunch on salads, hot dogs, hamburgers, casseroles, chicken, dips, soups, fish, pizza, baked potatoes and so much more! Adds just enough crunch and a great additional flavoring to your favorite recipes.

I also love that they have snack size bags of Onion crunch to take with you for lunch or eat plain... ya know like when you are pregnant and need a little crunchy flavor ;)

Overall, I like the product and the taste. I would love to try the flavored kind as well. My kids really like the Onion Crunch guy too... my boy has been saying, "Onion Crunchy Yum Yum Yum!" quite frequently lately. Ya I'd say he's a fan!

Did you know???

Onion Crunch has a shelf life of 1 year too! Not that it'll last that long as soon as you taste it because you'll be eating it up fast!

Easter Skirts...and EASY Cake Pop Recipe

I realize Easter has already passed and I really should have made this into a tutorial before Easter buuuttt I didn't. I just simply attacked the project because I needed to get them done. I did them the FRIDAY before Easter, lol!

I loved this fabric I had spotted online and knew it would be PERFECT for Easter Skirts. So here are my two cute girls in their skirts... we never got a group picture because most of the time they were either too cranky or too busy... what else can you expect anything else from them! LOL!

Skirt Simple Instructions
I basically just used 3 times the width of their waist line in fabric(and cut to the desired length for each child) then pleated the skirts as I sewed them to a soft elastic waist band fitted to their waist line... and added a cute pink flower trim. I know that is totally over simplified but if you sew, I think you will know what I'm talking about, for those that don't, so sorry.... maybe one day I'll have a real tutorial for you!

Here's one of my boy in his Easter outfit that I DID NOT make... I really need to learn how to make cook boy stuff... Any ideas people?

We decided it would be fun to do cake pops and mock Reese's eggs and make an Easter Bouquet...

They turned out way better that the snowman trying to be an Easter Bunny.... I think I need to write Palmer's and let them know we ate Snowmen for Easter!
Homemade treats were a much bigger hit!

Did you know cake pops are really easy to make?!

Ingredients needed:
1 box of cake mix
You choose the flavor- prepare as described on box
1 tub of frosting(your choice of flavor)

For Coating:
Chocolate chips(I used a full 11 ounce bag)
1/8-1/4 cup shortening
OR
Melting Chocolate

Directions:
1) After cake is cooked, just simply crumble into a bowl and add 1 tub of frosting. Mix all together. 2)Roll into desired size of pop cake balls- I did about 2" balls
3)Put on wooden skewers and place in freezer(for 2 hours or so)
4)Melt Chocolate and shortening together
5)Dip frozen cake balls in the chocolate and decorate as desired- we used sprinkles... you need to sprinkle before chocolate hardens.

ENJOY!

Super Bowl Commercials...

I didn't really get to watch them, I was a little busy celebrating my babies 2nd Birthday! :)
I can't believe she's so grown up! My baby is 2!!!! And because I'm a proud mommy, I just have to tell you she is such a sweetheart! We are so blessed with three(almost four) sweet children and our baby 2 year old is just as sweet. She loves to give hugs and kisses and will melt your heart in a second flat. Side note, she woke up at 4 am to celebrate her Birthday! LOL! She just loves to snuggle right in with mom and dad and nothing will get in her way when she wants to!
We did celebrate it Super Bowl style, lots of food, the game on, all the Thompson family(which are HUGE into football- like every game ever played) around, but I was a bit more involved with my 2 year old than the game.

So my question is,

What was your favorite Super Bowl Commercial?

The only one I really payed attention to was the Commercial about Farmers. I actually really liked the commercial and I totally appreciate farmers! Considering everyone's family history probably leads back to a farmer or at least farming for necessity, we can all be grateful for that. I did, however, find it a little odd that it was a Super Bowl Commercial. I couldn't help but imagine a bunch of guys trying to be manly and sensitive all at the same time during a Super Bowl Commercial.

Also, what was your favorite Super Bowl Food?

This year I tried out a Pillsbury Vegetable Pizza Recipe and I think it turned out pretty darn good! Someone had made it at a family event a couple of weeks earlier and we all loved it. :)
Easy Crescent Veggie Pizza

The nice thing about it is, it's way easy to make BUT looks like it took a lot longer!

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe- amazing!

It's time for me to make more of my...

It is simple and only takes a few minutes(even less if you have an automatic cheese grater) i did mine by hand.

Recipe for one batch:
(I make 3-4 batches at a time)
1 Fels-Naptha Bar
2 cups Borax powder
2 cups A&H WASHING soda

I also blended it through my Magic Bullet just to create a finer mixture. Then I put mine in an old ice cream bucket, not the cutest but it was free and it's actually quite handy- plus that means I enjoyed a good treat:)

One normal load is just 2 tablespoons(1/8 a cup)- Large or EXTRA dirty, 3-4 Tablespoons

I bought the 40 oz. box of Borax at Target for only $3.35(compared to Harmon's $5.99) but they didn't have the rest of the supplies so I bought the rest at Harmon's- not the cheapest place to buy it all(just the closest to me)... I've heard Wal-mart has it much cheaper($1 a bar of Fels-Naptha).
So lets do the math here(I know math this early in the morning-my head hurts):
1 bars Fels-naptha=  $1.99(or even $1 from Wal-mart)
1/4 box borax(assuming there is 16 cps worth)= $0.84
1/4 box washing soda(assuming 16 cups worth)=$0.82

Total of $2.66 per batch if you buy Fels-Naptha at Wal-mart or $3.66 if you buy from Harmon's

Each load costs as little as 5 CENTS!!!

Correct my math if I'm wrong.

If you are a couponer like me... you may have seen the great deal on Tide for $2.99(after sale and coupon)... that was for the 20-40 loads per bottle. Assume it's 40 loads at $2.99(which is RARE, btw)
that is .07475 cents per load! Still more than the homemade detergent!
Yup... and like I said THAT TIDE SALE IS RARE!

Here are some tid bits I learned while using it so far:

*it doesn't leave really any scent after being washed... I add a "scent booster"-  I have read you can add in a scented bar of soap like dove or whatever you like.

*the shredded fels-naptha kind of separates in the mix so give it a stir when you scoop for the wash.

*For HE you are supposed to use 2 Tblspoons and for regular I have read that you should use a 1/4 to half cup... I actually have been using 2 Tblspoons in my NON HE washer and it has been fine.

*It worked great on throw up and nasty explosive poop stained sheets- yes it happened... like 3 times over the holidays.... both came out great.

Bountiful Baskets

(This picture is of my first order ever made, it includes 2 conventional baskets, a 9 grain bread pack-5 loaves, a tortilla pack-7 dz total: 3 dz 12 in. flour Tortillas-cafe rio style, 2 dz - 6 in. flour, 2 dz - 6 in. corn, and a mexi pack. We were headed to Lake Powell for a week with lots of family so I ordered extra... still had lots left over though!)

Order your baskets today! There are tortilla packs, mexi packs, bread packs and blackberries you can add on too! Yum!

The Mexi pack and the tortilla pack make for some excellent mexican meals...
(Just to compare size)

Here is a recipe for Tomatillo Salsa Verde!
I used the boiling method.

Perfect for chicken enchiladas and also for drizzling over any mexi meal or just dipping salsa! I made it the first time I got the mexi pack(which had ALL the ingredients) and my family(inlaws too) LOVED it! We did chicken enchiladas and then drizzled it on top and had extra sauce. I didn't try but I bet once you make it, you could either bottle it or freeze it too!

I'm excited to make some blackberry jam! Delicioso!
